All of volunteer members are trained under strict protocols.

Firefighting

At Sasamat Fire Department, new recruits begin their journey with a comprehensive training program designed to meet the Exterior Operations Level as outlined in the British Columbia Structure Firefighter Minimum Training Standards Manual. This foundational training focuses on firefighter safety, the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and effective fire suppression techniques.

Recruits participate in both classroom learning and hands-on, scenario-based exercises. Training covers key skills such as operating self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), hose handling, water application, and understanding fire behavior in realistic conditions.

Upon completing their basic training, recruits become probationary firefighters and join the regular crew for weekly training sessions. These sessions are designed to expand and maintain their skills, covering more advanced fire suppression operations, motor vehicle incident response, wildland firefighting, apparatus driving and operation, and medical training.

This ongoing education ensures that all members of Sasamat Fire Department are well-prepared to serve our community with professionalism, safety, and expertise.
