What are the eligibility requirements?

Applicants must meet specific criteria outlined by the Sasamat Fire Department.

  • Must be a Grade 12 student and resident of Anmore or Belcarra.
  • Available to graduating students entering a post-secondary education program in one of the following fields: Fire, Police, Public Safety, Medical, Healthcare, Dental, Military, Social Services.
  • Students must provide Proof of Enrollment in a post-secondary program within one year.
  • 750–1,000-word essay on the topic: “Why Volunteering is Important in My Community?”
  • Include details of volunteer service in the essay.
  • 2 Letters of Reference from non-family members, verifying volunteer work hours completed.
  • Include contact details of References (e.g. email, phone number)

What documents are required?

You will need to complete an essay of 750 to 1,000 words on the topic

“Why is Volunteering Important in My Community?”

Describe “your community” in your essay.

By “community,” we mean where you live (e.g. Anmore or Belcarra), your school community, faith community, team/club community and/or other communities to which you belong.

Possible prompts to help elaborate your response:

  • What was your role in the volunteer work? What specific volunteer service did you provide?
  • What were your responsibilities? What did you accomplish? How many hours did you serve?
  • Upon reflection, what did you learn from your experience? How has this experience influenced
    your future direction?
  • What program are you planning to study? How will your community service assist you in this
    path?
  • Feel free to add any additional information to complete your answer.

How will I know if my application is successful?

We will notify successful applicants by email after the review process.

Can I apply more than once?

You may apply once annually as long as you meet the eligibility criteria.
